Privacy Policy

Last updated: 21 August 2026 · Effective from launch

Summary

Ninu (“the Ninu app,” “we,” “our”) analyses your baby’s cry, and it does that entirely on your iPhone or Apple Watch. The audio never leaves your device, and the recordings are deleted within seconds of being analysed. There is no account, no sign-up and no backend of ours. Your history, your care log and your baby’s profile stay on the device. The one exception is subscription validation, which sees purchase and entitlement data only — never audio, never your history, never your care log.

Who we are

The data controller responsible for any personal data described here is Apphive Technologies, a private technology company. You can reach us at support@apphive.tech with questions about this policy, or with an access or deletion request. We respond within seven days.

What Ninu records, and for how long

When you tap to analyse, Ninu records three clips of five seconds each through the microphone. Each clip is classified on your device by machine-learning models bundled inside the app, and then deleted within seconds. The recordings are never uploaded, never transmitted, and never written to any server — ours or anyone else’s, because we do not operate one.

What is kept, on your device only, is a rendered spectrogram image and a one-line description of the sound, such as “High-pitched, loud, rhythmic cry.” Neither can be turned back into audio.

Ninu records only when you tap, only for fifteen seconds, and only while the app is open. It is not a baby monitor, it does not listen in the background, and it never holds the microphone open when you have not asked it to. You can revoke microphone access at any time in iOS Settings; the rest of the app keeps working, and recording simply refuses to start rather than failing silently.

Your baby's profile and your care log

You may optionally give your baby’s first name, birthday and gender during onboarding, and you may skip all three. Feed, sleep and diaper entries are yours to log or not. All of it is stored locally, in this app’s own container on the device (group.com.apphive.crydecoder), and none of it is ever transmitted to us or to anyone else. There is no iCloud sync. The only copy that ever moves is between your iPhone and your paired Apple Watch, directly between the two devices.

What we collect

Nothing about your baby, your recordings, or your care log. The only data that leaves your device is what Apple and our subscription provider need in order to validate a purchase:

  • Purchase history — the StoreKit transaction and receipt data needed to confirm you have an active subscription.
  • An anonymous app identifier — used to tell anonymous subscribers apart and to service support requests. It is scoped to us and is not linked to your name, your email, or any account, because the app has no accounts.
  • Basic diagnostics — device model, OS version, locale, country, timezone and app version, retained against that anonymous identifier.

On the App Store this is declared as Purchases, not linked to your identity. There is no Data Used to Track You category, because there is nothing in it — the app’s privacy manifest declares no collected data types and no tracking domains at all.

Subscription validation — our one network call

Subscriptions are validated through Apple’s StoreKit and through RevenueCat, running in anonymous mode. Anonymous mode means we never send RevenueCat an account, an email address, a display name or any attributes about you or your baby — Ninu has none of those to send.

This is the only network client in the app. The analysis path — the recording, the models, the consensus and the context weighting — makes no network calls at all and runs entirely offline.

RevenueCat’s privacy policy: revenuecat.com/privacy. Payments are processed by Apple; we never see or store your card or bank details.

Where your data lives

On your device. Ninu stores your analysis history, care log, baby profile and settings in a shared app-group container on the phone that recorded them, using iOS encrypted storage. There is no server of ours holding a copy, and no cloud sync. Deleting Ninu deletes all of it. You can also clear history and the care log separately from inside the app, in Settings.

Analysis history is shown for 30 days. Older entries are hidden rather than deleted, so nothing is lost if a subscription lapses and later resumes.

Notifications

Ninu’s notifications — a feeding or diaper reminder, a sleep window, a weekly summary — are scheduled and delivered locally by your device. They are not sent from a server and they carry no data off the phone. They are also deliberately quiet: at most three a day, one per category, ninety minutes apart, and anything that would fire during the night is held until 6:30 the next morning.

What we never do

  • Upload, transmit or store your baby’s audio.
  • Sell, rent or share your data with anyone.
  • Use your recordings or your care log to train models.
  • Show ads of any kind, inside or outside the app.
  • Include an analytics SDK, a crash reporter, an advertising identifier, or an attribution SDK.
  • Ask for tracking permission, because there is nothing we would do with it.
  • Ask for your location, camera or contacts.
  • Listen in the background, or at any time you have not asked.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, the CCPA and similar laws you have the right to access, correct, delete and export your personal data, and to object to processing. Because Ninu has no account and holds your data on your own device, most of these are immediate and self-service: clearing history or the care log in Settings, or deleting the app, erases everything, and any analysis summary can be shared out of the app at any time through the iOS share sheet.

For the limited purchase data described above, or for a formal request or complaint, email support@apphive.tech. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Children

Ninu is designed for use by parents and caregivers, and it is not directed at children. The infant whose cry is analysed is not a user of the service, and no profile we hold about them ever leaves the device. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page whenever this policy changes, and material changes will be surfaced in the app before they take effect.
